Can your water be turned off if you dont pay your bill?

If you are a domestic (non-business customer), water companies can’t, by law, disconnect or restrict your water supply if you owe them money. If you’re a tenant, see Paying your water bill if you’re a tenant.

There are no legal limits to amount they can recover, but in practice they may decide to charge you for this year plus the last six years. The Consumer Council for Water can give information on how debts have been recovered by water companies in the past.

Can bailiffs come for water debt?

Your water company can’t disconnect you if you owe them money, but if you don’t pay up, they could take you to court.
