Can you get your BSN in the military?

In order to become a military nurse, you must earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or an advanced nursing degree from an accredited school. (Because military nurses are commissioned officers, an associate degree will not be accepted). Find BSN programs here. Take and pass the NCLEX.

Can you go to nursing school while in the military?

Yes. There is a program called the Army Enlisted Commissioning Program (AECP) that offers to send qualified enlisted Soldiers to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.

In 1898, after the Spanish-American War, the United States added 1,500 nurses to their military personnel (Brooks, 2018). A year later in 1899, the Surgeon General recognized the importance of these nurses and established a “reserve group” of nurses with specific criteria to prepare for future wars.
