What happens if you mix 87 and 93 octane gas?

If you usually fill your tank up with 87-octane gasoline and you accidentally put in a higher octane blend (say, 91, 92, or 93), don’t worry. You’re actually filling your car or truck with a different blend of gas, which means it will burn differently in your engine.

Can I mix 93 octane with 91?

If you mix half a tank of 93 octane with half a tank of 91 octane, it will give you 92 octane, more or less. It’s fine mixing them, and this is essentially the reason that you can put a full tank of 87 in and an octane booster will—when mixed throughly—be 91 or above if you put the right amount in.

Is 87 Aki the same as 91 Ron?

The good news is that at its most basic level, regular gas is regular gas, and 91 RON in Germany is equivalent to 87 AKI in the United States. Premium is the same, and while premium gasoline is often called “super” by some retailers, 95 RON in Germany is equivalent to 91 AKI in the USA and Canada.

How do you calculate octane when mixing fuels?

Let’s say you mix 3 gallons of 110 with 2 gallons of 100 and you want to know the octane of the resulting 5 gallon mixture. The percentage of 110 in the mix is 3/5 = 0.60 (60\%). The percentage of the 100 octane fuel in the mix is 2/5 = 0.40 ( 40\%). So the octane of the resulting mixture is 106.

Is it OK to mix premium gas with unleaded?

Can I mix premium and unleaded gas? Yes, drivers can mix the two types of fuel. The combined gas types will result in an octane level somewhere in the middle — something the vehicle “will survive,” according to The Drive.

Is 93 and 91 the same?

The Availability: Those in the western half of the country usually only have access to 91-octane fuel, while 93 octane is fairly common in the eastern half. All things being equal, an engine can be tuned to make more power on 93-octane fuel than 91. In both cases, the higher-octane fuel would be a plus.

What does Aki 91 mean?

The AKI is an average of two other octane numbers, the RON and the Motor Octane Number (MON), which are determined by two different laboratory tests. For example, a 95 RON plus an 87 MON averages to a 91 AKI, which is the octane rating you would see displayed on a U.S. retail fuel site dispenser.

What’s the difference between 91 and 93 octane?

Regular gas is rated at 87 octane in most states, while premium gas is often rated higher at 91 or 93. Fuel with a higher octane rating can stand up to higher compression before it detonates. Essentially, the higher the octane rating, the lower the likelihood that detonation happens at the wrong time.

Can you change from 87 to 91?

It will not burn any cleaner nor will it be any better for your engine than regular old 87. The only thing a higher-octane fuel does is be more resistant to explosions (knocking) caused by a high-performance with a high compression ratio.

What happens when you mix 91 octane and 89 octane gas?

You get gasoline with the combined octane. If you mix a half tank of 91 octane and a half tank of 89 octane, you end up with a full tank of 90 octane.

What is the percentage of 110 octane fuel in the mix?

The percentage of 110 in the mix is 3/5 = 0.60 (60\%). The percentage of the 100 octane fuel in the mix is 2/5 = 0.40 (40\%). Plugging the information into the equation: (0.60 x 110) + (0.40 x 100) = 66 + 40 = 106

Is 93 octane gas good for the car?

It’s not good for the car for longterm use. Using 93-octane gasoline is great for your car. In fact, it should be better than using 91. Ehh… if the car’s designed and tuned for 91 octane, then putting 93 octane in isn’t going to improve things. Yes, it’s just that much less likely to knock.

What Octane is considered premium gas?

I think there’s a California law that states that anything higher than 91 octane is considered racing gas, and is taxed differently. As such, when a manufacturer means “premium”, they just say 91. Almost the entire midwest and east coast refers to “premium” as 93 octane. Not that you’d save anything, anyway.
