Can a dog be CKC and AKC registered?

Dogs registered with the CKC can easily have their paperwork transferred to the AKC and become registered here. The two registries have a very cordial and reciprocal relationship. However, while the AKC is a club of clubs, the CKC is a club of members, and any individual may apply to join.

Can you register a non AKC dog?

You can’t register your dog until its breed receives full AKC recognition, but your dog may be eligible for a listing with the AKC’s Foundation Stock Service (FSS). The FSS provides record keeping services for a number of rare breeds that aren’t currently AKC-registrable.

How do I CKC register my dog without papers?

In instances in which no registration documents are available and the dog is at least 6 months of age, owners may apply for CKC registration using the Non-Purebred Canine Registration Application form. It must include two witness signatures and be accompanied by the required photographs.

Can I switch my dog from CKC to AKC?

If by CKC you mean the Continental Kennel Club, then you cannot register the puppies with the AKC no matter where the pups were whelped or who the sire is. The AKC does not recognize the CKC’s record keeping as reliable enough to guarantee the dog is purebred and of the stated genealogy.

Can you register a dog with both AKC and CKC?

If your dog has parents who are registered with the CKC, you can easily submit a registration application for your dog with the CKC. There are also various registration regulations that you will need to look out for, especially if your dog has parents registered by both AKC and CKC.

To be eligible for registration with CKC, the applicant canine must be purebred and of proper breed type. PLEASE NOTE: Submitting a PAW Registration Application does NOT guarantee that the applicant canine will be accepted for registration with Continental Kennel Club.

Breeders registering litters with CKC must provide each new puppy owner with the correct, original, signed Puppy Registration Application at the time of sale or transfer of the puppy to the new owner, FREE OF CHARGE. Registered dogs whose status is marked as ‘limited’, ‘suspended’, or ‘revoked’ may not be listed as the sire or dam of a litter.
