Will removing my resonator affect emissions?

Removing the resonators won’t do anything in regards to emissions. As long as you don’t move the cats or the oxygen sensors (which removing the resonator does not do), you will have no problem with smog.

What is the purpose of a resonator on an exhaust system?

The resonator is a complement to the muffler in that it removes high-pitched noises along with annoying hums and buzzes. It creates a smoother exhaust note, but doesn’t affect volume. The resonator is designed to eliminate sounds at a particular frequency which bounce off the inside of the device canceling each other.

Does removing the resonator increase horsepower?

A resonator delete can also reduce your engine efficiency. It affects the back pressure of the exhaust gases, which may amount to more fuel consumption. So, a resonator delete can give your vehicle a slight increase in horsepower.

What does a resonator do in an exhaust system?

Resonators cancel out a certain range of sound frequencies. You can think of it as a sort of echo chamber for your car’s exhaust. Resonators prepare the loud noise coming from your engine for the muffler to silence it. A resonator doesn’t just help remove sound, but changes it.

Does resonator affect performance?

More than just the reduction of noise, an exhaust resonator also improves the overall performance of the engine. You will end up having a smoother driving experience since the car can produce higher horsepower and use less fuel. In a nutshell, it also improves efficiency.

Does resonator delete affect gas mileage?

In short, the answer is no. Muffler delete will not impact gas mileage in any way. Muffler is a sound suppressing device that reduces the intensity of sound waves from combustion. If you are just researching before actually doing it, then don’t worry – muffler delete will not impact your gas mileage.

Will removing resonator make louder?

Three main benefits for removing exhaust resonators are to make your vehicle lighter, to give your engine a louder tone, and to get a slight increase in your horsepower. Since resonators help reduce the engine sound, when removed, your truck or car will sound like a muscle car, emitting much louder and obnoxious tone.

What does removing the intake resonator do?

This reduces the engine intake noise and increases the amount of horsepower available. But when you use a intake tubing instead there is no such expansion chamber for the intake air and hence there will be decrease in efficiency and power output and engine unit becomes more noisy.
