What is the CAG report?

The General Purpose Financial Report presents an overall picture of the financial performance of the Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) which are under the audit jurisdiction of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG).

Which reports are submitted by CAG?

The CAG submits three audit reports to the President:

  • Audit Report on Appropriation Accounts.
  • Audit Report on Finance Accounts.
  • Audit Report on Public Undertakings.

Who scrutinize the report of CAG?

The Parliamentary Committee which scrutinizes the report of the CAG is public accounts committee.

How is CAG removed?

Removal. The CAG can be removed only on an address from both houses of parliament on the ground of proved misbehaviour or incapacity. The CAG vacates the office on attaining the age of 65 years or 6-year term, whichever is earlier or by impeachment process.

Why is CAG important?

The CAG is an agent of the Parliament and conducts audits of expenditure on behalf of the Parliament. Therefore he is responsible only to the Parliament. 2. The CAG has to ascertain whether the money spent was authorised for the purpose for which they were spent.

How can I become a CAG in India?

After getting the post of Assistant Audit Officer, you must go for a training which is conducted by Indian Audit and Account Department (IA&AD) of CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General). The training period will be 3 months. There are 12 Regional Training Institute in India which provide the AAO training.
