What happens if you miss the SAT in high school?

The good news is that you can take it again. The College Board won’t hold it against you that you did not show up the first time. If you decide to register again, you can transfer your SAT registration to another test date coming up by paying a transfer fee.

Can you graduate high school without taking the SAT?

What about the ACT? Believe it or not, some states in the U.S. do use the SAT or ACT as benchmark assessments. Some require that high school students take either test in order to graduate. Others may simply offer these exams for free at school, without requiring students to take them for graduation.

Are the ACT and SAT mandatory?

Though most four-year colleges and universities in the United States require ACT or SAT scores for admission, many do not. Colleges that don’t require ACT scores are known as “test-optional” schools. This means that you do not have to send in any ACT/SAT scores with your application but may if you want to.

Missed the Test You must register again and pay the full fee for your test option if you want to retest. Log in to your MyACT account and select “Make Changes to Your Registration” or call ACT Registration at 319.337. 1270 by the regular deadline for the new test date.

What happens if you don’t take the SAT?

If the college does not require the test, then generally NO, it will not hurt your application. But know that without test scores other parts of your application will become more important. This includes your GPA, your college essay, awards and achievements, references, and any extracurricular activities you include.

Each U.S. state has a Board of Education that monitors student achievement using standardized tests. In addition, free (but mandatory) state-administered SATs/ACTs compel all eleventh-grade students to take a college-entrance exam, which might inspire some students to consider applying to college.

Absolutely. A growing number of US colleges—including Hult—are now what’s known as ‘test-optional’. This means students can decide whether to submit SAT scores as part of their application.

Can I cancel my ACT?

Unfortunately, there is not really any way to flat-out cancel your ACT registration. That means your options are to change your test date (we have a how-to below), or, if you’ve decided not to take the ACT again or at all, to simply not show up and accept the fact you’ve lost money.
