What is the difference between NRC and CAA?

The CAA has been implemented nationwide after the passage of Parliament, but the NRC has not yet been implemented nationwide. Neither the NRC rules and its procedures have been decided yet. The NRC process that is going on in Assam is being conducted under the Honorable Supreme Court order and the Assam Accord.

Is NRC applicable in Assam?

The NRC Bill has just been completed in Assam, but it has been clarified by the country’s Home Minister Amit Shah that the NRC will be implemented across the country. Keep in mind NRC is not yet applicable for the whole country.

Why are north eastern states excluded from the CAA?

Due to the expected concerns of people residing in the North- Eastern region of India, the law has excluded those living within states with an Inner Line Permit, from the purview of the CAA. Several of the states in this region, are sparsely populated, with a substantial tribal population.

What is the CAA and why is it important?
