What level of English do you need for IB?

All courses have at least one grade that can be considered comparable to CEFR B2, the level most commonly required by universities. The IB also offers an English ab initio Standard Level course, which is a beginner’s course and was not included in the study.

The IB English exams consists of two papers; Paper 1 focuses on language, while Paper 2 is focused on literature. In Paper 1, you’ll be asked to analyse an unseen piece of text – it could be anything from an advertisement to a newspaper article – focusing on aspects such as style, purpose and audience.

Are IB classes better than honors?

Generally, honors classes offer a more challenging version of a regular course. Oftentimes, if honors courses are weighted, they are weighted to a lesser degree than AP and IB courses i.e. an A in an AP course may be worth 5 grade points, while an A in an honors class is worth 4.5.
