What is a high alkaline phosphatase level?

High alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels may indicate that there’s damage to your liver or that you have a type of bone disorder. Liver damage creates a different type of ALP than bone disorders do.

What is considered a mild elevation of alkaline phosphatase?

* Numbers in table refer to multiples of the upper limits of normal for the individual enzyme, e.g., <2-3 for mild elevation of AST (normal, 0-35 U/L) indicates values ranging from 70 to 105 U/L. 9 mild elevation of the aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, GGT and serum bilirubin.

What is a normal alkaline phosphatase level by age?

For men and women older than age 18, an ALP level between 44 and 147 U/L is considered normal. The normal range for children is higher than that for adults, especially for infants and teens because their bones are growing rapidly.

What is the normal range for alkaline phosphatase levels?

The normal range is 44 to 147 international units per liter (IU/L) or 0.73 to 2.45 microkatal per liter (µkat/L). Normal values may vary slightly from laboratory to laboratory. They also can vary with age and sex. High levels of ALP are normally seen in children undergoing growth spurts and in pregnant women.

What medications cause high alkaline phosphatase?

Some examples of drugs that may cause a raised alkaline phosphatase include:

  • Cardiovascular drugs: Captopril (1)
  • Disease modifying agents:

What causes a mildly elevated alkaline phosphatase?

Bone pathology causes of elevated alkaline phosphatase include Paget’s disease, hyperparathyroidism, osteomalacia, metastatic bone disease and a recent fracture.

Is 125 alkaline phosphatase high?

The normal range of alkaline phosphatase in the blood is 20 to 140U/L, although this can vary from lab to lab. Children and pregnant women can have significantly higher levels of the enzyme in their blood [1]. Values above 130 U/L are usually considered to be high.

What conditions cause elevated alkaline phosphatase?

Infections can also lead to increased alkaline phosphatase. Examples are localized infections, such as infections of the gallbladder in cholecystitis, or infections of bone as in osteomyelitis. Large scale infections can also increase the enzyme. Sepsis is a condition of widespread infection and an aggressive immune response.
