What is the difference between AAC blocks and red bricks?
AAC blocks, on the other hand, are lightweight. The weight of AAC blocks is about 80\% less than traditional red bricks and leads to a reduction in the use of cement and steel, thus, saving costs. Moreover, being environmentally friendly, AAC blocks ensure better durability and improved sound and heat insulation compared to bricks.
What are the advantages of AAC blocks?
The AAC blocks gain a high level of strength during the manufacturing process, giving durability to the finished structure. Thus, structures made with AAC blocks are capable of handling higher seismic loads, compared to structures with conventional bricks. See also: How can home owners ensure earthquake-resistant homes?
How AAC block saves mortar?
One AAC block of size (600 x 200 x 100 mm) is equivalent to 6 bricks. Hence it reduces 50\% of joints resulting in saving of mortar up to 48\%. In case of 150 mm or thicker block masonry, the mortar saving is even more due to the avoidance of vertical joint.
Why AAC blocks are not used for load bearing structure?
Hence, from an economical point of view it is not recommended to use AAC blocks for load bearing structure as there is no advantage available in saving of structural steel. Load bearing is used for low rise structure only.
