Who is eligible to take the AMC 10 and the AMC 12? A. Students with a passion for problem-solving who are in grade 10 or below and under 17.5 years of age on the day of the contest can take the AMC 10. Students in grade 12 or below and under 19.5 years of age on the day of the contest can take the AMC 12.
What is the difference between AMC 10A and AMC 10B?
The AMC 10 is open to students grade 10 and younger who are under 17.5 years of age and the AMC 12 is open to students grade 12 and younger who are under 19.5 years of age. The exams are offered on two dates each year, referred to as AMC 10A/12A and AMC 10B/12B.
Is AIME qualification good?
Students who qualify for and participate in AIME stand out on college applications, especially to top colleges. Getting a good score on the AMC 10/12 exams shows dedication and hard work, and the AIME allows students to further push themselves and improve their math and problem solving skills.
Is AoPS books worth?
AoPS books are for students willing and able to put in the effort and dedication to learn the material and practice getting better. Mathematically advanced students can benefit from the books, particularly those training for math competitions, but students don’t have to be exceptional to try the books.
How many problems are there in the art of problem solving?
Speaking of problems, the Art of Problem Solving, Volume 1, contains over 500 examples and exercises culled from such contests as MATHCOUNTS, the Mandelbrot Competition, the AMC tests, and ARML. Full solutions (not just answers!) are available for all the problems in the solution manual.
Can you use a calculator on the AIME test?
Calculators are not permitted. In the first two years (1983 and 1984) there was a 2.5 hour time limit instead of the current 3 hour limit. The AIME tests mathematical problem solving with arithmetic, algebra, counting, geometry, number theory, and probability and other secondary school math topics.
Are middle school students eligible to participate in Aime?
While most AIME participants are high school students, some bright middle school students also qualify each year.
