Overall, we can say that the Tavor is plenty accurate for a combat rifle. It was easy enough to keep 3-4 inch groups at 100 yards. For a combat rifle, that’s completely acceptable and we’d be interested to see how the 1:7 twist does with 77 grain.

The X95, and all Tavor variants, were designed for combat, and as such, you’re going to be getting 2-3 MOA accuracy out of them without modifications, making it a short to mid-range rifle.

Compared to the X95, the MDR has a true free floating barrel and currently users are reporting roughly a 1-1.5 moa level of accuracy which is slightly better than my personal x95 which tends to “sling” 1 in 5–7 rounds to really kill the moa accuracy.

Having fairly extensive experience with both, I can say the X95 is a definite improvement clearly intended to fix key deficiencies with the TAR-21. This is the biggest issue in my opinion. The TAR21’s charging handle is found out to the front of the rifle.

The MDR is a versatile rifle. I can use it for carbine matches on Saturday, go home, switch out the caliber and barrel within 5 minutes to a 6.5 creedmore and shoot long range precision matches with the same rifle on Sunday. While the X95 and Scar 16 can do that, the barrel switch out isn’t quite as easy.
What is the difference between a Tavor X95 and a TAR-21?
The TAR-21 is the original design from (2008 or 2009) and the X95 is the product improved version. Both types are obviously acceptable for use- the IDF issues them as does the Columbia National Police and the Central Police of India. There are a few other countries who use the Tavor series rifles.
