What causes transmission fluid to come out the dipstick?
The ATF system isn’t pressurized the way the coolant system is (i.e. you check ATF level on the dipstick with the engine running, but checking coolant level while at normal temp would be very unwise). A failed oil cooler (and one thing needing to be replaced) sounds the most likely.
Can I fill my transmission fluid through the dipstick?
The transmission itself is full of fluid that keeps everything running smoothly. To avoid this, you can use the transmission fluid dipstick to monitor the level of fluid inside of the automatic transmission and, if necessary, add fluid to the transmission.
What does a transmission vent tube do?
Breather allows the transmission to breathe air when the air inside transmission expands or contracts due to heating and cooling of lubricating oil during vehicle running.
Where is the vent on a 700r4 transmission?
your right. The orange tube is broke was the vent. It is located directly on top of the trans pointed towards the pass side, rearwards.
What happens when your car is low on transmission fluid?
When your transmission fluid is low, your car won’t generate as much hydraulic pressure, leading to what’s known as gear slippage. Gear slippage commonly manifests as a failure to accelerate properly. When your transmission fluid is low, you may notice your vehicle reaching high RPMs while moving sluggishly.
What happens if gearbox breather is blocked?
A clogged breather causes internal gearbox pressure to build up until it escapes through oil seals; this allows outside dust and contaminants to enter the system, again producing unnecessary wear.
Do all transmissions have a vent?
All transmissions have a cooling line that runs to the radiator. All transmissions have a vent to maintain equal barometric pressure inside of the transmission.
Can you just add more transmission fluid?
You can add more by inserting a funnel into the tube the dipstick was withdrawn from and pouring a small amount of automatic transmission fluid into the pipe. Check the level each time you add a little until the level is right between the two lines.
What happens if you run out of transmission fluid?
Generally, your car will not drive at all if you have completely run out of transmission fluid. This is especially true if your car uses an automatic transmission. If there is no fluid, there is no hold, the gears cannot spin and therefore the car won’t be able to move.
How do you fill transmission fluid?
To fill the transmission, the vehicle must be raised on a hoist and running with the gearshift in the park position. There is a fluid fill plug located on the left rear corner of the transmission, just above the pan area. To fill the transmission, this plug is removed and fluid is pumped intothe fill hole untill it is level with the plug opening.
Why is transmission fluid coming out of Dipstick?
There are a few possible causes of transmission fluid coming out of a dipstick hole. The most likely cause is the vent hose might be clogged. In this case, you would need to clean out the vent carefully. Most people use a long piece of sturdy wire to remove the build-up.

What is a transmission fluid pump?
The transmission pump is a hydraulic pump that circulates transmission fluid trough the transmission and its cooling system. It also builds the hydraulic pressure necessary for the transmission to operate.
