What happens if the pump is operating too far to the right on the curve?

Cavitation. Excessive vibration occurs when the pump operates too far to the left or right of BEP resulting in the accelerated wear of seals, shafts, impellers, and bearings. Reduced seal and bearing life resulting from any of the above that will require frequent repair or replacement.

What is pump AOR?

The allowable operating range, or AOR, is the portion of a pump curve determined by the pump manufacturer where the pump can be operated continuously without significantly affecting the performance or life of the pump.

What is the preferred and allowable operating range?

3-2012) defines two operating regions, the Preferred (POR) and the Allowable (AOR). The POR is a narrow region within the broader AOR where the pump exhibits the best efficiency and reliability. Operating beyond the AOR is not recommended.

Why is your pump operating off the curve?

Causes for Operating Off Curve worn clearances. different or incorrect size impeller. different or incorrect speed. viscosity not corrected or accurate.

What does the best operating point mean?

Like the terms Shut-off (SO) or Run-out (RO), the Best Efficiency Point identifies an operating region or point along the pump performance curve. The Best Efficiency Point is defined as the flow at which the pump operates at the highest or optimum efficiency for a given impeller diameter.

How do you increase discharge pressure from a pump?

  1. Discharge pressure can be increased by changing the speed( rpm) of impeller of pump.
  2. Head can also be increased by installing second pump in series.
  3. Head can also be increased by increasing the diameter of impeller. By installing impeller of large diameter, discharge pressure will be increased.

What is acceptable pump operation?

The allowable operating region (AOR) is a wider range of flow, outside the POR, over which the service life of a pump is acceptable. When pumps are operated outside their POR, the flow through the pump is no longer uniform.

What is pump por?

The preferred operating range, or POR, is a region of the pump curve defined in relation to the best efficiency point (BEP), and represents the portion of the curve in which continuous operating conditions should be located if possible.

What is Shockless flow?

Pump impellers are designed to operate at a specific flow rate where there is a zero incidence angle between the inlet impeller vanes and the approaching liquid at a particular rate of flow, called shockless entry flow. When pumps are operated outside their POR, the flow through the pump is no longer uniform.

How does a can pump work?

The Canned Motor Pump is composed of a traditional centrifugal hydraulic, connected to a special motor through a one piece assembly. The pump liquid circulates through the rotor chamber, cooling the motor, and lubricating the slide bearings that support the rotor.

What is performance curve of a pump?

A pump performance curve indicates how a pump will perform in regards to pressure head and flow. A curve is defined for a specific operating speed (rpm) and a specific inlet/outlet diameter. The curve also shows the shut off head or the head that the pump would generate if operating against a closed valve.

What is the importance of best operating point in pumps?

However, the importance of BEP is more than efficiency and best performance. This is the operating point where the possibility of energy waste and unwanted force, vibration, noises, etc., are at the lowest. Therefore, BEP is closely related to the highest theoretical reliability and lowest possible risk or maintenance.
