How do I register an alternative investment fund?

The Applicant for grant of registration as an Alternative Investment Fund under SEBI (Alternative Investment Funds) Regulations, 2012 should make an application to SEBI in Form A as provided in the Regulations along with all the necessary documents.

Does Alternative Investment Fund comes under Sebi?

Yes. An AIF may launch schemes subject to filing of placement memorandum with SEBI. Further, it may be noted that prior to launch of scheme, an AIF is required to pay Rs. 1 lakh as scheme fees to SEBI while filing the placement memorandum.

Are AIF regulated by SEBI?

Part-A: SEBI Circular Regulation 15(1)(c) of the AIF Regulations applies to Category I and Category II AIFs and restricts such AIFs from investing more than 25\% of their respective investible funds6 directly in an investee company or through investment in the units of other AIFs.

How can I get AIF in India?

To set up an AIF, an investor needs to submit a required application form and a bank draft of Rs. 1 Lakh to SEBI. Thereafter, SEBI will evaluate the application and will notify about its success to the investor within 21 days.

Who can invest in AIF?

Eligibility Criteria. Investors can be Indian, NRI or foreign nationals. Minimum corpus should be Rs20cr for each scheme and Rs10cr for Angel Funds. Minimum investment by each investor should be Rs1cr or Rs25 lakh (in case of employees/director/fund manager of AIF).

Sponsor is any person(s) who set up the AIF and includes promoter in case of a company and designated partner in case of a limited liability partnership.
