Why is my queen ant not eating?

In many temperate ant species, the queen starts a colony via what is called “claustral” founding. In this case, she seals herself off from the world as much as possible, often forming a special chamber. Until those eggs complete development and eclose into worker ants, it is likely the queen will not feed at all.

Why is my queen ant so still?

Most queens shed their wings after mating and can therefore be assumed to have mated. There are of course exceptions where queens keep their wings all their life, but it is very uncommon. She still has her wings which either means she’s not mated or that she just landed on the ground after mating.

Why is my Queen not laying eggs this year?

Perhaps it is so close to winter that the queen has stopped laying eggs till spring. If so then just wait and she may resume laying next year. Could be that your queen is old, or was never fertilized… Here is my setup..

Do ants grow grass in their encloser?

They also have some live grass growing in they’re encloser that they drink the dew off of. I cant see the queen most of the time but the colony is not grow nor is there any signs of growth like pupa and such. The ants like to come out and sit on the side of the encloser by the entrance of they’re tunnels. Sometime the queen comes out with them too.
