Those entering aviation programs must first attend complete a six-week air indoctrination course at Naval Aviation Schools Command, in Pensacola, Florida. From there, prospective Pilots and NFOs attend primary flight training. A four-year degree is required to work as a Navy Pilot or Naval Flight Officer.

Is it easier to become a pilot in the navy or airforce?

Both have the same basic training and both fly the best available hardware. Navy pilots have the extra skill of landing on a carrier, but while that is a very difficult and demanding skill, it is just an extra skill and does not, in total, make a Naval pilot a “Better” fighter pilot than an Air Force pilot.

How long is Navy fighter pilot training?

For the SNAs reporting to Navy bases, primary training is approximately 22 weeks. It includes ground-based academics, simulators and flight training in the T-6A Texan II. Primary training consists of six stages: Familiarization (FAM), Basic Instruments, Precision Aerobatics, Formation, Night FAM, and Radio Instruments.

Can you be a Navy pilot with glasses?

While the preference is good eyesight, you can still become a Navy pilot if you wear glasses or contact lenses. However, your vision must be correctable to 20/20 vision. According to the Navy, all personnel must fly with distant acuity vision correctable to 20/20.

What happens if you don’t complete the Navy pilot program?

Candidates who do not complete the Navy pilot program will serve four years from the date they leave flight status unless released by the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (Manpower, Personnel, and Training). Applicants must be at least 19 years old and of such age that they will not have passed their 27th birthday on commissioning.
