Paul’s dislike of Ash stems-at least partially-from his disappointment in Reggie. Ash is known for treating his Pokémon as friends and equals, rather than as tools, much like Reggie does. Paul blames Reggie’s philosophy as the reason he lost to Brandon, and thus he sees the same parallels in Ash.
