Why breaking a coconut is considered auspicious?

Cracking of coconut symbolizes breaking of ego. The hard shell of ego and ignorance is broken to give way to knowledge and purity. That is why it is considered sacred to break a coconut before any auspicious event.

Why do we break coconut for Pooja?

Because it’s like a proof, when something is said and done in front of others we tend to follow it with more dedication. So when we break a coconut in front of god, we make a promise that we will leave our negative qualities behind and change to a better person.
