TVB currently operates five terrestrial free-to-air HD channels, namely the flagship Jade and Pearl channels, J2, TVB News and TVB Finance & Information Channels, providing round-the-clock news and diversified TV entertainment to about 2.51 million households in Hong Kong.

Who founded ATV?

The very first ATV – or AATV – ever created was called the Jiger (pronounced “Jigger”) and was invented by a Canadian named John Gower who was tired of trudging through the snow in frozen Alberta while cutting his firewood. He wanted to create a machine to travel through the outdoors, whatever the terrain.

Revival of brand. In 2015, ITV Broadcasting Ltd surrendered its rights to the ATV trademark and it was acquired by Associated Television Productions Ltd which has produced programming for the Made Television network of local television channels.

The Jiger. Though Honda would become the most popular ATV brand later on, the very first ATV was actually developed in 1961 in Toronto, Canada and called the Jiger. The Jiger was a 5 1/2 horsepower, 200 pound, 6-wheeled amphibious ATV, meaning the vehicle could travel on land and water.

Why was TVB successful in the past?

TVB’s past success was largely attributed to the huge efforts it spent on market research. It was known that the station regularly sent out teams of researchers to the low-cost housing estates as well as middle-class residential complexes to test reactions to the station’s programs and find out latest consumer trends.
