Can IES officer become chief engineer?

IES Officer Career Growth Over 13 years of experience, they are able to get promoted to joint general manager or chief engineer of level 2. After 20 years of experience is enough to become chief engineer or additional general manager.

Can I give IES exam in 3rd year?

Yes, Any Engg. Graduate ( Passout / Final year Appearing ) is eligible to appear for IES examination. You however need to produce the required documents of the qualifying exam as and when asked by the UPSC commission before the final selection.

During the normal career progression one rises to Chief Architect/Engineer, then to Additional Director General and further to Special Director General. The apex level post in CPWD is of Director General, CPWD who also acts as technical advisor to the Government of India.
