Currently in the game the only weapon you are able to enchant with looting are swords. Even though there are much more weapons in the game you still need to duel-wield them with your sword to be able to get the looting effect.

I did some tests in Creative/Survival, holding a Smite V Diamond Axe in the main hand and a Looting 3 Diamond Sword in the offhand and I didn’t noticed any increase in the drops that I’ve got, to be honest :/ I’ll try again later, maybe it works now in 1.9.2 for some reason.
