Can indie game developers make AAA games?

Posted on March 15, 2020 by Author

Can indie game developers make AAA games?

AAA doesn’t define the quality of a game. It defines its budget. If we give a AAA budget game to an indie developer, that developer will recruit more people and make the game a AAA title. If you ask AAA veterans to work on a game alone with a shoelace budget, the result will be an Indie game.

Why are triple A games so bad?

Publishers put a ton of money into game development and marketing for AAA games, spending millions of dollars on the production of a single game. They’re so expensive that, in some cases, one failed game can drive a studio to bankruptcy.

Why are indie games popular?

“Indie games are popular because they can take creative risks that are much greater than those AAA studios can. This means that you can get some truly innovative (and often deeply meaningful) games about a wide range of topics.”

Why are indie games surpassing AAA games?

Indie developers provide a gaming experience that’s very different from what the big names in the AAA gaming industry have to offer. More specifically, here are the main reasons why indie games are quickly surpassing AAA titles in fans (and sometimes sales). 1. Affordability It’s no secret that indie games are way cheaper than AAA games.

Why do we love indie games so much?

It gets tiring to play games that have the same type of style, characters, and stories. Indie studios can afford to take risks with games. That’s why you’ll see indie games that have a huge emphasis on art and story. Take Cuphead for example—this game has unique hand-drawn art inspired by cartoons from the 1930s.

How much should I pay for an indie game?

One single AAA game typically goes for $60 or more, when you can get three indie games for that price. Some indie games are even priced at under $10—not to mention that their price rarely gets anywhere near $60. Thanks to these affordable prices, building a library of amazing indie games is totally doable.

What is the difference between PC games and indie games?

PCs, however, are modular, and games on them have minimum and recommended requirements. In general, indie titles tend to be cheaper, shorter, and smaller with more stylized art direction. Indie titles are always developed by individuals or small teams, which rarely have financial support from a publisher.
