Does everyone in military get BAH?

Who is Eligible for BAH? Any service member who is assigned to a permanent duty station within the continental United States who can’t get into furnished government housing (AKA base housing). If you’re stationed overseas, you’ll receive OHA based on your dependency status.

How long do you have to be on orders to get BAH?

Retroactive Type I Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) payments will be approved for all Annual Training (AT) or Active Duty for Training (ADT) orders of 30 days or less IF they can be demonstrated to be in succession with other funding-approved AT/ADT orders where the cumulative duration is 31 days or more.

Can you be denied BAH?

If a BAH transaction is denied for any reason, it is IMPORTANT to remember that the most recent approved BAH transaction will continue to run, and therefore continue to pay/not pay the member.

BAH is based only on rental properties, not homeownership costs like mortgage payments and property taxes. BAH also includes rate protection.

How do you get BAH in basic training?

If you are on orders to serve on active duty for 30 days or more, you’ll receive the full housing allowance rate, the same as active-duty personnel. If you have dependents, you will receive the housing allowance, even when staying in the barracks at basic training or technical school/AIT/A-School.

Using your Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) for rent is easy. Initially, Airmen will submit an AF Form 594 to the base finance office to initiate the BAH entitlement. Next, sign a Resident Occupancy Agreement (ROA) to give permission to allot your BAH entitlements to rent.
