Will a Colourless slab be visible if immersed in a transparent liquid of the same refractive index as that of the slab?

The light will not reflect as well because as there is no change in the refractive index, it will continue along its original path. Therefore, a glass plate inside a colorless liquid becomes invisible because the refractive indices of both are the same.

What happens when refractive index is the same?

In theory, if two materials have exactly the same refractive index, the light passes through without any (or minimal) scattering or refraction. The light travels straight because it cannot detect any difference in the two materials, hence the speed of the travelling light does not change (bend).

Under what conditions will a glass slab placed in a transparent liquid become invisible?

READ:   Why is BGP so different from OSPF?

Answer: (a) When the refractive index of glass lens becomes equal to the refractive index of transparent liquid, the glass lens will become invisible.

What will you observe when a lens is placed in a transparent medium of same refractive index as that of a lens?

When refractive index of the material of lens is equal to the refractive index of the liquid, there would be no bending of light when it travels from the lens to the liquid and both will start behaving as if they are same entities.

What is the refractive index of plastic?

1.3 to 1.6
Plastic. Common clear plastics have a refractive index in the range of 1.3 to 1.6. Nonetheless there are also some high refractive index polymers with an index of refraction up to 1.76.

What will not be visible if a glass and a liquid has the same refractive index?

Explanation: If glass rod is immersed in a liquid of a same refractive index then it will disappear. So if refractive index is same then light will never reflect or refract at the interface & object will appear to disappear.

What will not be visible under the microscope if a glass and a liquid have the same refractive index?

If a transparent object is surrounded by another material that has the same index of refraction, then the speed of light will not change as it enters the object. No reflection and no refraction will take place, and the object will be invisible. Different types of glass have different indices of refraction.

What happens to the power of a lens when it is immersed in water?

Complete answer: When a lens is submerged in water, the focal length increases, and as focal length is inversely related to angular magnification, the power of the lens diminishes or decreases.

How does the power of a lens change if it is immersed in water?

Since focal length of convex lens increases when immersed in water, its power will decrease.

Under what condition does a lens becomes invisible when immersed in a transparent medium & Why lens have two refractive surface?

A lens placed in a transparent liquid becomes invisible because when refractive index of the material of the lens is equal to the refractive index of the liquid in which lens is placed under this condition no bending of light takes place when it travels from liquid to the lens, so both will start behaving like both are …

When a lens is immersed in liquid?

When any lens or glass slab is immersed in a liquid whose refractive index is equal to that of lens, refractive index of lens will be equal to 1 relative to that liquid. The focal length of the lens in this case, will tend to infinity.

Does refractive index vary with Colour of light?

Yes, the refractive index changes with the color of light. Refractive index is maximum for violet light (less wavelength) and least for a red light (more wavelength).

How many refractions does light have through a glass slab?

Refraction through a Glass Slab In this case, Light First Travels from Air to Glass and then Back from Glass to Air Hence there are 2 refractions First, the ray of light travels from air to glass.

Which color of light will decrease the refractive index of glass?

In glass, the speed of red light is more than that of blue light. The refractive index is c / v. Therefore the refractive index of glass for red light will decrease as compared to blue light. (a)For which colour of white light, is the refractive index of a transparent medium (i) the least (ii) the most?

Why does a light ray incident on a rectangular glass slab?

Why does a light ray incident on a rectangular glass slab emerges parallel to itself? The ray of light emerges parallel to itself because the bending of the ray of light on top face AB (air-glass interface) is equal and opposite to

Why is the refractive index of transparent medium always greater than 1?

The refractive index of a transparent medium is always greater than 1 (it cannot be less than 1) because the speed of light in any medium is always less than that in vacuum. Question: 10 (a) Compare the speeds of light of wavelength 4000 (i.e. violet light) and 8000
