A natural bid is alertable if it is forcing or non-forcing in a way the opponents may not expect, or if its meaning is unexpectedly affected by other agreements (e.g. canapé sequences, jump responses to an opening bid or overcall that are weak, a 1H opening that denies 4+ spades, etc.).
Are trial bids Alertable?
Game trial bids are NOT alertable, as they show a suit with at least 3 cards in it (no matter how weak the suit).

Only the responder can use 4th suit forcing (never the opener). Fourth Suit forcing is alertable. Some players use 2 as “4th suit forcing” after 1 -1 -1 in order to leave 1. available as natural (this is just a matter of partnership agreement).
Is Michaels cuebid forcing?
Non-forcing. Natural, showing a very good diamond suit (usually 6+) since the Michaels cue-bidder will usually hold 5+ clubs, not diamonds.
Is New Minor Forcing Alertable?
New Minor Forcing allows the 11+ point responder to explore a game fit by discovering the length of opener’s major suit holdings and specific strength. The bid says nothing about the new minor, the bid is strictly conventional (alertable), both artificial and forcing.

What is the Precision bidding system?
Welcome to an explanation of the Precision Bidding System. This is a system based on a strong and forcing one club opening bid. (However, like any aging system, the system described here has been modified from the original, hopefully for the better.) A bit of history…
What is the problem with the opening bid of 1?
Another problem is the ambiguity caused by the opening bid of 1, which may be as short as a singleton. Players who use a forcing club system find that perhaps as many as 40\% of the hands are opened with this catch-all bid.
What’s wrong with bidding 4-card major systems?
There’s nothing wrong with 4-card major systems, and bidding them solves many of the opening bid problems with Precision. (But 4-card majors are not popular with most players.) This is so absurd that I wish to go on record in stating that the Big Club cannot be played with any hope of success if you attempt to use it by bidding only 5-card majors.
Why is opening bidding better than standard bidding?
This is because the bidding starts at the very lowest level of one club and provides better methods of exchanging information. All opening bids other than one club have a narrower range of points than standard forms of bidding, making judgments easier in both constructive and competitive situations.
