Why is swearing banned in school?

Many school administrators feel that because there is no practical reason for people to swear, and that swearing in a school is not conducive to a professional learning environment, it is better to ban swearing altogether.

Are college professors allowed to cuss?

Currently, there is no guideline in the Faculty Conduct Policy prohibiting professors from swearing in the classroom. Faculty members are allowed to decide for themselves what language is appropriate in different situations and might use curse words to get students attention.

Per California Education Code section 48900(i) a student may be suspended or expelled for engaging in “habitual profanity.” Note the code does not say a child may be suspended for “profanity,” but rather HABITUAL profanity. This wording is important, and not always understood by the school imposing the discipline.

Under normal circumstances, faculty should never yell or shout at a student. However, faculty are also human beings, and there is always the possibility that under emotional strain, they can lash out at a student.

That would depend what they’d saying to the class or student. If they are telling them to be quiet or telling them off then yes. If you’re shouting something that you normally shouldn’t say, then that’s gonna cause somebody problems.

No, they shouldn’t. Cursing, especially in SCHOOL, is highly disrespectful and enitrely unneeded. When a teacher is giving a lesson, students shouldn’t just be able to curse all around and in the hallways and such.
