What happens if you mix synthetic transmission fluid with regular?

No. Switching to synthetic transmission fluid after using a conventional product will not cause a problem. Synthetic and conventional oils are 100 percent compatible.

Can you mix old transmission fluid with new?

In fact, only about half of the fluid drains out, the other half is trapped up in the trans and torque converter. So this won’t get rid of all of the old dirty fluid, but it does add clean fluid and fresh additives. This is usually not harmful to a trans and is, in fact, beneficial.
