How smart do you have to be to get into McKinsey?

You do not need to be a genius or even that smart to be a consultant. The truth is most tasks just require you to have a basic level of intelligence and ability to think in a structured way, coupled with hard work. In fact, being extremely intelligent does not necessarily mean you’d make a good consultant.

Is BCG a good firm?

Despite their rigorous interview process, it’s typical to hear that BCG has some of the “nicest” and “brightest” in the industry. It’s truly what sets them apart from the rest, and in doing so they continue to hire exceptional people who make BCG one of the top consulting firms in the world.

Which is better BCG or McKinsey for an MBA?

Both companies offer a healthy starting salary with a base of at least $165,000. At McKinsey, recently hired MBAs can make above $200,000 in the initial year, with a $30,000 signing bonus and a performance bonus of $35,000. BCG boasts a performance bonus of up to $45,000, making it the more lucrative of the two for first year hires.

What is the difference between BCG and McKinsey’s internal knowledge function?

This is due to McKinsey getting a head start on building its own internal knowledge function several years before BCG. While Mckinsey really started investing in this during the early 2000’s, BCG did not start building out its knowledge network until after 2010.

Is McKinsey a good firm to work for?

McKinsey also has an edge on alum networking. Because it’s the largest firm, it offers the largest global network for ex-McKinseyites. The firm also does the best job of keeping its alumni connected through great resources, contact and job databases, and consistent membership activity.

What is the company culture at BCG like?

Office culture can vary from region to region, but the firm is closely aligned with a people-first approach to building a great company. Comparing BCG to McKinsey is like comparing Michael Jordan and Lebron James.
