How are deputy collectors chosen?

State Public Service Commissions conduct provincial civil services or state civil services examinations for recruitment / selection of candidates for state civil services like Provincial Civil Services, Class-I (PCS), Provincial Police Services, Class-I (PPS), Tehsildar/Talukadar/Assistant Collector etc.

How many years take Deputy Collector becomes collector?

After joining the services, it may take about 5-7 years for an IAS officer to become a District Collector.

Is it easy to become a Deputy Collector?

It is a very tough job. Deputy Collector means District Magistrate (DM) . It is a post for IAS officers or a State PCS officer can fill it on promotion(very rare). To become DC or DM you have to appear in Civil Service Exam conducted by UPSC.

What is physical criteria for deputy collector?

Candidate age should be between 21 years to 30 years. Age Relaxation for OBC candidate is 3 years and for SC/ST candidate is 5 years. Candidate height should be 165 cm and chest 84 cm unexpanded.

How do collectors study?

To become a collector you first have to appear in the civil service exam conducted by UPSC. Any Indian, Nepali, or Bhutanese with a graduation degree in any stream from a government recognized university can give that exam.

Is height required for collector?

How to become a deputy collector?

You need to write Group1 exams in your state to become a deputy collector. You need to be one among the toppers in the rank list to get a deputy collector’s post. The exam pattern in most of the states almost resembles the civil services exam pattern having one qualifying preliminary round and then the main exam and finally the interview round.

Can a district collector become an IAS officer after 10 years?

But for sure it depends on the work status. While Deputy Collector enters the service through the state Civil Services Examination conducted by the state public service commission. He will be promoted to IAS cadre after completing the service of 10 to 14 years and the level of District Collector only after completing the service of another 5 years.

How to become a district collector in the UPSC?

After getting 8-10 years of experience as deputy collector and then joint collector, UPSC will conduct an interview to confer them as IAS. You need to qualify in that interview in order to become a district collector.

How many years does it take to become a collector?

However, there can be some exceptions. Normally, most of the RRs (regular recruits), i.e., officers selected directly through UPSC as IAS do become Collectors. The timing of this depends on respective cadres. For example, in UP it might take 4–5 years after completing training, while in the north eastern states it might take just 3–4 years.
