Generally, it takes about 3 to 6 months to learn the basics of coding. You can learn coding faster or slower depending on your pace.
Why does programming take so long to learn?
Programming requires a kind of very organized, detailed, step-by-step, literal thinking that is very different from the way most people think most of the time. It also requires a kind of symbolic thinking similar to algebra, which also is very different from the way most people think most of the time.
What makes coding difficult?
Coding is thought to be hard because it’s a different type of skill; and “different” in the sense that it’s unlike anything most of us have ever experienced before. You might know about the different kids coding languages, and what code looks like, etc., but the other 90\% is very different.

Is it easy to code?
One of the most dangerous things I’ve seen happen to people who are just starting to code is being told that it’s easy. Here’s what your brain does: Drawing by me. (I am better at coding than drawing.) Most programming doesn’t require a special brain, but it’s more frustrating and messier than anyone lets on.

Is it OK to call yourself a coder or a programmer?
At the end of the day, there is no formal definition of a coder or a programmer. And so, it’s completely fine to use these terms interchangeably: you can say “I’m a coder” or “I’m a programmer,” and no one will judge you for it.
