Why does Lord Shiva likes Bilva Patra?

It is believed that the Bilva tree was created by Lord Brahma. The triangular leaves or 3 leaflets of the Bilva tree are offered to Shiva as they are very dear to him. Bilva tree is considered as the form of Shiva. It is also said that the worship of Shiva which is done without offering Bilva leaf is fruitless.

When should we not pluck Bilva Patra?

One must never pluck the Bilva leaf on a chaturthi, ashtami, chaturdashi, amavasya, etc. Sankranti and Monday also are inauspicious for plucking a Bilva leaf. You can offer the leaf plucked a day before. Also, make sure the leaf is not cut or eaten by an insect.

What is Bel Patta?

Bel patra is a leaf of Bel / bilva tree(Aegle marmelos). It is widely used in worship of Hindu dieties, especially Shiva. The scriptures also state, that the leaf, represents the three eyes of Lord Shiva. As such Lord Shiva the pagan Lord, was very fond of Bilva leaves.

Can I eat Bel leaves?

Bael is also known as Bengal quince, bilva, golden apple, and wood apple. The fruit of the Bael tree is dried and eaten as candy, or made into a sweet drink — the leaves and shoots are consumed as vegetables.

Can Tulsi leaves be offered to Lord Shiva?

However, it is said that Tuli or Basil leaves should not be offered to Lord Shiva. According to a story in Shiva Purana, there was a demon named Jalandar. Because Vrinda knew that Lord Shiva killed her husband, she refused to worship him. And hence, basil or tulsi leaves are not offered to Lord Shiva.

Bel leaves are considered the most sacred offerings in Shiva pooja. A worshipper should offer Trifoliate meaning Three leaves together called Bilva dalam. One should not offer Bilva dalam with two or a single leaf. It is a sin to offer incomplete Bel -Patra.

Why do we offer Bel Bel leaves to Lord Shiva?

Bel leaves are important as their trifoliate shape signifies Shiva’s three eyes as well as the three spokes of the lords Trishul. Since they have a cooling effect, they are offered to the Shivalinga to soothe this hot-tempered deity.

What is Eka bilvam shivarpanam?

Lord Shiva is worshiped by chanting sacred name “Eka Bilvam Shivarpanam”. Bilva leaves are generally trifoliate (three leaves attached together) Bilva (Crataeva) tree is considered as one of the favorites trees of Lord Shiva.
