Can we become IAF pilot through NDA?

The UPSC conducts the NDA (National Defence Academy) exam, clearing which you undergo a 3 year training at NDA, Khadakwasla, followed by flying training at Air Force Training establishments. Post this, you will be commissioned as “permanent commission officers” and may be posted as pilots at any Air Force station.

Can I become an airforce pilot without NDA?

You have two options now :

  1. CDS : CDS exam is conducted by UPSC twice the year just like NDA. Here you can apply for flying branch in IAF.
  2. AFCAT : Through AFCAT you can apply for the flying branch in IAF, but that is only SSC ( Short Service Commission ) .

Through the Combined Defence Service Examination (CDSE) Similar to that of NDA training, aspirants here will have to undergo training in Air Force Academy.
