Does it matter where I put my AIO?

How you mount your AIO cooler to your computer case is important. An optimal mounting position not only decreases the amount of noise, but it also increases the longevity of your cooler. In general, you want to make sure that: The radiator is in a higher position in the loop than the pump.

Can you mount AIO on top?

A top mounted AIO will recycle the hotter air from inside your case and will result in higher CPU temperatures. With a top mounted radiator, you will want to have good fans at the front of the case to supply the components with cool air and to keep decent airflow.

Should my PC radiator be intake or exhaust?

Generally, you want the case fans in front of the case drawing in air while the fans at the rear blow air out. If your case has vents at the top, they should be placed as exhaust fans because hot air will rise. Side-mounted fans should be used for intake, though they often don’t have air filters.

Is it okay to use AIO as exhaust?

Not for the system. CPU performance doesn’t degrade if it’s 2-3C higher (intake vs exhaust), as long as it’s below the throttling range.

Do AIO coolers lose liquid?

Remember that AIO coolers have been designed so that nothing enters and nothing can come out. You cannot change the liquid inside the coolers, so ideally, nothing will be able to leak out either. This is why they are called “closed-loop” systems.

Water and a powered up motherboard do not mix well. Actually, water and electricity mix very well, but that’s not what you want. AIOs don’t have fittings, so to speak, but you get the point.

What happens if AIO cooler mounting orientation is incorrect?

Incorrect mounting orientation of a new AIO cooler leads to a large amount of RMA applications by the buyers. This is because the buyer does not get the cooling performance that they were expecting out of the cooler coupled with weird noises from the pump block.
