Is BIS mandatory for toys in India?

BIS certification mandatory for toys According to the Toys (Quality Control) Order all toys and material for children below 14 years are required to be certified by the India’s national standards i.e., BIS body. Absence of which shall result in criminal liability, including imprisonment and huge fines.

How do I get my BIS certificate to import toys?

However, for foreign manufacturers, the application form has to be downloaded from BIS website www.bis.gov.in (Home>Conformity Assessment>Product Certification>FMCS). Filled up application form has to be submitted to BIS Foreign Manufacturers Certification Department (FMCD) located in Manakalaya, BIS HQ, New Delhi.

Can toy manufacturers/importers sell their products without BIS certification?

From 1 st September 2020, no toy manufacturer/importer will be able to sell or import any toys or articles, as mentioned in the Order, without obtaining a certification from the BIS.

What is bis order 2020 for toy manufacturers?

The Order has come into force on 1 st September, 2020. Pursuant to this Order, the toy manufacturers and Importer are under mandatory obligation to comply with the Bureau of Indian Standards (‘BIS’), to meet the safety standards, while manufacturing and or importing the toys.

This Order is applicable to manufacturers manufacturing toys in India as well to the Imports who are importing toys from outside the country. This Order does not apply to goods or articles manufactured/meant for export purposes.
