A. Because space is limited in the barracks, recruits may receive letters and small photographs only. Please do not send your recruit packages of civilian clothing, toiletries, food items, etc. as they will not be permitted to keep them.
You’ll receive complete dental and medical exams, and if you need a haircut, you’ll get one. The first week also will be filled with conditioning, swimming, marching, drilling and, most importantly, attending Navy classes. Hitting the Sack: Lights Out. In all the branches’ basic training programs, bedtime is usually 2100, or 9 p.m., except during times of special events, such as night exercises. In basic training, lights out means go to sleep. It does not mean talk to your buddies, study or write a letter home.
Recruit Training or “boot camp” is approximately eight weeks long. The main goal of this week is to develop the teamwork and work ethic required to be successful in the next phase of training. Why do Navy recruiters ship early in the fall?
That happens more in November and December when a large number of recruits ship early due to the Navy Recruiting Holiday Stand-down. It also happens when there is a week without a PIR or if storms cause recruits to arrive on a different day than the day they were sworn in.
