Do reserves need basic training?
Soldiers in the Army Reserve must complete the same training as active-duty soldiers. Training includes basic combat training and advanced individual training. After this initial training, Army Reserve soldiers are free to return to civilian life.
Will I get paid during basic training?
Do You Get Paid for Basic Training? Yes. You’ll be glad to hear you’re at least getting paid to struggle through challenges that will shape you into a soldier. During the in-processing of Week Zero, the Army will establish your military pay records and scale.
What can I bring to Bmq?

What is BMQ-land training like for Calgary Regiment soldiers?
For soldiers in the King’s Own Calgary Regiment, the next milestone will be their BMQ-Land course, where they will train to be effective soldiers in the land environment. This will include rudimentary tactics, section roles, patrolling and additional weapons training. 11 King’s Own Calgary Regiment soldiers will be moving on to BMQ-Land.
Who are our BMQ students?
They come from nearly every corner of Alberta from various military trades, with diverse backgrounds and life experiences. All volunteered to test their mental and physical fortitude in the army’s Basic Military Qualification (BMQ) course. BMQ is the basic training program for every military member in the CAF.
Can Army Reserve formations train large numbers of new recruits?
Training a large number of new recruits is a challenge for Army Reserve formations at the best of times. Add a global pandemic to the mix, and a team effort becomes even more of a priority.
How much of the BMQ course is devoted to physical training?
15\% is devoted to physical training. The BMQ is the CAF basic training program for future non-commissioned members. The course is 10 weeks long and provides the core skills and the common military knowledge required to succeed in a military environment.
