Can I use hair gel in the army?
All soldiers will comply with the hair, fingernail, and grooming policies while in any military uniform or while in civilian clothes on duty. If soldiers use dyes, tints, or bleaches, they must choose those that result in natural hair colors. Colors that detract from a professional military appearance are prohibited.
Can you bring your own toiletries to basic training?
Required toiletries include a toothbrush with a case, hairbrush or comb, one washcloth and towel, antiperspirant, shower shoes (flip-flops), toothpaste, dental floss, shampoo, soap and a soap case, a disposable razor or safety razor with blades, and shaving cream (optional for women).
Can you take lotion to Army basic training?

What should I bring to Air Force basic training?
Remember your recruiter will give you a list of required items. You should bring enough civilian clothes to last about 2 days. Bring glasses (if you have them) as opposed to contact lenses. The training environment is not conducive to contact wear.
Navy gals, you will get your hair cut so that it meets the preceding standards at all times. You can let your hair grow back after basic training, as long as you continue to wear it in such a way that you meet the standards while in uniform. In basic training, you take group showers.
