Why does He2 not exist on the basis of molecular orbital theory?

According to molecular orbital theory He2 has 2 electrons in sigma 1s bonding and 2 in sigma 1s antibonding. So its bond order comes out to be 0 and a molecule must have a bond order of atleast 1 to exist thats why He2 doesnt exist.

Does He2 plus exist?

Helium molecule contains 4 electrons. Out of this 4 electrons, 2 are present in the bonding molecular orbital and the remaining 2 are present in the anti-bonding molecular orbital. Hence, He cannot exist. He2+ contains 3 electrons.

Why He2 molecule does not exist explain by using VBT?

Each helium atom has two electrons in 1s-orbital and therefore, there are four electrons in He2 molecule. The zero bond order value indicates that there is no net bonding and He2 molecule should not be formed. In fact, there is no experimental evidence for the existence of this molecule.

Why does Helium molecule not exist?

HELIUM MOLECULE DOES NOT EXIST BECAUSE IT IS A NOBLE GAS WHICH EXITS IN ITS FREE STATE THAT IS ATOMIC STATE NOT IN A MOLECULE STATE….

Why Helium and beryllium does not exist?

The electronic configuration of Beryllium is 1s2 2s2. From the electronic configuration it is clear that there is no singly filled atomic orbital present in beryllium. Without the half- filled orbital, the overlapping is not possible, therefore Be2 molecule does not exist.

How to draw molecular orbital diagram?

Draw the MO diagram for B2 B 2. First step is to determine which MO diagram we’re using. In this case,we’re using the standard one.

  • Draw the MO diagram for O2 O 2 Since we’re doing the MO diagram for O2 O 2,we have to use the O2 O 2 MO diagram which
  • Draw the MO diagram for O+2 O 2+

    What is molecular orbital theory?

Molecular Orbital Theory The goal of molecular orbital theory is to describe molecules in a similar way to how we describe atoms, that is, in terms of orbitals, orbital diagrams, and electron configurations.

What is the bond order of H2-?

The bond order of H2 is 1 ,here it has 2 bonding electrons and has no anti bonding electron so according to the formula half (bonding-anti bonding electrons) it’s ans will be 1.

What is the bond order of He2+?

bond order of helium is zero.because he2 has four electron.two goes in bonding molecular orbital and two in anti bonding molecular orbital.the bond order is calculated as: electron in b.o minus electron in a.b.o.
