In order to become an Eagle Scout, you must have your Eagle Scout Application signed by your religious leader. If you do not practice an organized religion, but worship privately in your own home, a parent can sign that line instead. Religion is, officially, a major part of Scouting.

Is BSA religious?

The Boy Scouts are proud to be an organization of people who believe in God. But there are Jewish Boy Scouts, Catholic Boy Scouts, Protestant Boy Scouts, Muslim Boy Scouts, Boy Scouts not affiliated with any particular religion. Boy Scouts is not a religion. It is not a religious sect.

Any youth or leader who would be a member of the Boy Scouts of America must profess a belief in God and promise to do his or her best to fulfill the spiritual ideals of Scouting.

Just read the Oath – it says “duty to God.”. The Boy Scouts of America says they don’t tell its members which religion to practice, but they do – they say that the only acceptable religions are one that believe in God – not religions that believe in any deity or higher power. A Scout needs to believe in God.
