Are beacons safe?

It’s a better solution than no password at all, but it isn’t fully secure. By default, beacons broadcast their signal “in the clear,” (which means communication between the beacon and the device which manages it is not encrypted).

What is Apple’s iBeacon?

iBeacon is the name for Apple’s technology standard, which allows Mobile Apps (running on both iOS and Android devices) to listen for signals from beacons in the physical world and react accordingly. The underlying communication technology is Bluetooth Low Energy.
