After the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) is passed by Parliament, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) has become law.

What type of bill is cab?

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill seeks to provide Indian nationality to six communities — Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Parsis, Jains and Buddhists fleeing persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

What is CAA bill exactly?

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019 seeks to fast-track citizenship for persecuted minority groups in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. The six minority groups that have been specifically identified are Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, Buddhists, Christians and Parsis.

Is cab bill passed?

The Bill was introduced in 17th Lok Sabha by the Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah on 9 December 2019 and was passed on 10 December 2019, with 311 MPs voting in favour and 80 against the Bill. The bill was passed by the Rajya Sabha on 11 December 2019 with 125 votes in favour and 105 votes against it.

Why is CAA bad?

WHY CAA IS CONSIDERED DISCRIMINATORY: CAA violates Constitutional secular principles and is a violation of Articles 13, 14, 15, 16 and 21 which guarantee the right to equality, equality before the law and non-discriminatory treatment by the Indian State. CAA is about illegal migrants.

What is the difference between a cab and a CAA?

CAB is Citizenship Act Bill, & CAA is Citizenship Amendment Act. When a new proposed law or an amendment, proposed in an existing law, is tabled in Parliament, it is called a “Bill”. But, when this bill is passed by both Lok Sabha, & Rajya Sabha, & then Govt notifies it after Presidential approval, it comes àn Act.
