Are IFV better than tanks?

IFVs carry infantry into battle as well as participating in combat, whereas tanks do not transport infantry. This difference is reflected by the smaller IFV primary weapon size, which frees up space for infantry and equipment. Size: Usually around 20-30 tons. Somewhat smaller than a tank.

Are M113 obsolete?

What is the difference between an APC and IFV?

The fundamental difference between an APC and IFV, is the role they are designed to serve. The CFE treaty stipulates an infantry fighting vehicle is an APC with a cannon in excess of 20 mm, and with this additional firepower the vehicle is more involved in combat, providing fire support to dismounted infantry.

What is the difference between AFV tracks and wheeled?

AFVs may be either tracked or wheeled. Both systems offer various advantages and disadvantages. Wheels offer increased speed and range with decreased weight and operational cost. Tracks offers superior cross-country performance and a tighter turning circle.

What are the pros and cons of wheeled platforms over tracks?

Maintenance and ease of repair is another positive to using wheeled platforms over tracks. If a tank is hit and the track becomes separated it is rendered immobile, whereas if a tire is blown, thanks to run flat technology, the vehicle can usually travel far enough to get out of danger. Stealth is another area where wheels work well.

What are the advantages of wheeled combat vehicles?

A summary of the advantages offered by wheeled combat vehicles is presented below. Wheeled vehicles use far less fuel than tracked vehicles when driving on roads, with this advantage decreasing with the ruggedness of the terrain over which the vehicle is driving. The consumption rate of other vehicle fluids such as oil is also reduced.

Are wheeled vehicles better than tracked vehicles?

Though not suited to heavy combat vehicles such as MBTs, wheels did prove suitable for IFVs and APCs. Though generally not performing equivalently to tracked vehicles in actual combat situations or in rugged terrain, wheeled vehicles are able to move quickly about the battlefield.
