Are PCS officers promoted to IAS?

According to the Indian Administrative Service (Appointment by Promotion) Regulations, 1955, PCS officers are eligible for promotion to IAS after completion of eight years of service. But in reality, they are generally promoted to IAS after two decades in service.

Can SDM be promoted to IAS?

The PCS officers had to go through various promotions to get promoted as an IAS officer. If you are under UPPCS, then the starting post will be of SDM that is level-10, and it will take five promotions to be an IAS officer. They have to get promoted to level 11, level 12, level 13, level 13A and level 14.
