Are Unix and Linux dead operating systems?

Unix’s slow decline “No one markets Unix any more, it’s kind of a dead term. UNIX is alive and well in everything but name in the BSD source code that is abundantly found in Mac OS X, iOS, and even Windows. And while BSD may not be the exact same code that Bell Labs created, it’s close enough. The only thing that’s really no longer with us is the UNIX branding, and you can thank AT for that.

Is iOS based on Linux or Unix?

Both the Mac OS X and iOS evolved from an earlier Apple operating system, Darwin, based on BSD UNIX. iOS is a proprietary mobile operating system owned by Apple and it is only allowed to be installed in Apple equipment.
