Are you allowed to wear your uniform off base?
Wear civilian clothing when off duty. You should not wear your uniform when you are off duty, except for transportation home. Some military assignments have strict rules against wearing a uniform while off duty, especially when stationed overseas. Make sure you know and follow those rules.
Why do soldiers wear uniforms in public?

Can the army wear cammies off base?

Wear while conducting official business, when business attire is appropriate and participating in social events after normal working hours is not permitted. Consumption of alcohol in the NWUs off-base is not permitted.
Why can’t you wear a military uniform off base?
Sometimes working uniforms are not allowed off base because the military doesn’t want to present anything that’s not “sharp” in public. When I was in A-school we wore the Navy dungarees and light blue work shirts to class and work details but we could not leave the base in them ever.
Why did the military wear their uniforms during World War II?
During World War II, because it was an officially declared war, U.S. military personnel were required by law and/or regulations to wear their uniforms ( which uniform would have been guided by normal peacetime rules, I guess) whenever they were not in bed or the shower, as I understand it.
When do soldiers wear their service and dress uniforms?
The Service and Dress uniforms are mostly worn for special occasions. The same rules apply as for the camo uniforms in regards to stopping for gas and groceries, but you will also see Soldiers wearing them to weddings, funerals, parties, movies, etc.
Can veterans wear civilian clothes off duty?
Since 1945, of course, we have never fought an officially declared war, and that’s why most living veterans were able to wear civilian clothes off-duty during their military service. Incidentally, this whole uniform business can become amusing.
