Can a botany student apply for IIT JAM?

Re: Eligibility to appear in IIT-JAM for BSc(Botany) student? Yes, you can appear for IIT JAM entrance exam as you are eligible for it. To apply for IIT JAM exam, you must be pursuing Bachelor course from any recognized college/institute.

Can a BSc zoology student give GATE exam?

NO, you can’t appear for the GATE exam because this exam needs a minimum of B. Tech or engineering degree qualification. This exam is conducted for the candidates of engineering background only and you have mentioned that you have done your B.Sc degree in zoology.
