Can a headphone jack be used as an aux?

The standard aux connector size is 3.5mm, while headphone jack sizes vary from 2.5mm to 6.35. You can use a headphone jack for an aux-in, but not the other way around. Auxiliary cables are essentially used for mixing consoles.

Can headphone jack be used for speakers?

The construction of the aux connector and the headphone jack is often the same: 3.5mm (1/8″) TRS. However, the “auxiliary connector” is universal for audio while the “headphone jack” is, by its name, suited for headphones.

A speaker out is also an output port on your audio device where speakers can be connected to. However, speaker out ports transmits speaker-level audio signals instead of line-level audio signals. Audio signals transmitted from the speaker-out ports are amplified and are stronger than line-out signals.

Line inputs are not designed for microphones. Although it is possible to use them and it won’t harm your mic, there is not enough gain to amplify the microphones level to a line input. If you have a mic with a jack plug on it you should change it for a XLR connector.

On the other hand, Headphone Out is an audio port that delivers an amplified line-level signal meant to drive headphones.

Can you connect speakers to line out?

You cannot use a line out for speakers. Speakers require- speaker-level signals to work. However, Line outs deliver line-level signals, which is a weak audio signal compared to speaker-level signals. Hence, Line out will not be able to provide speakers with enough power needed for them to work.
