Can AKC registration be faked?

AKC REGISTRATION NAME-GAME Unscrupulous people can just take a dog’s name and AKC number from a show catalog and falsely register litters.

Is there a time limit to register with AKC?

An application to individually register a member of a registered litter shall be valid for a period of twelve (12) months from the date of issue of the application.

What is the difference between limited and full AKC registration?

The basic difference between an AKC limited registration and a full AKC registration is that the former is meant for non-breeders while the latter is for professional breeders. If the dogs with limited registration are bred, then their puppies cannot be registered.

Is it bad if a dog is not AKC registered?

The presence or absence of registration papers doesn’t change the genes (DNA) inside a dog. He can be purebred without having papers – and sadly, he can have papers without really being purebred. Only a DNA test can tell you whether he’s really purebred.

Limited Registration is determined by the litter owner(s). The litter owner(s) check the Limited box on the AKC Dog Registration Application. Limited Registration certificates are white with an orange border; the Full Registration certificate is white with a purple border.

Can I Register my Dog with the AKC?

OPEN REGISTRATION If your dog is registered with one of our acceptable domestic registries and the breed is still Open you should be able to register with the AKC.

How do I Change my Dog from limited to full registration?

Answer: Limited Registration can be changed to Full Registration only by the litter owner(s). The litter owner(s) will need to obtain the Application for Removal of Limited Registration of an AKC-Registered Dog (form AXLTDR). That form should be completed and sent to our Raleigh address with a $25.00 processing fee.

What happens if I cannot obtain AKC papers?

If you cannot obtain AKC papers, AKC has a new program where we are researching pedigrees of dogs that do not have AKC paperwork to determine if the dog comes from AKC registrable stock.
